What options do you have in the Device Toolbar?

Check that you are using the current version of Audacity - look in the Help menu > About Audacity. The current version is 2.0.2. Some USB devices are shipped with old versions of Audacity, but the current version is available here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ ...

This is very strange, and very consistent: In choosing either PLAY or RECORD, the playhead begins to "stutter" at the beginning of the track, but will not move forward. ???? Consquently, I can neither play nor record. Help???

... has it always been like this? Have you obtained ALSA supported drivers for this sound card? Also updating Ubuntu might be an idea. Ubuntu won't help you if you choose to run an unsupported version of the OS. Gale
