I'm probably not the best person to answer as I've had no formal training in programming. Tried your code, it does what I described. Remove the outer "extract" and instead I get the latter half, followed by the entire clip. Then, replace the second "s" with (snd-copy s), and that does not fix the behavior. I still don't have the right mental model of what's going on h...

Never copy AUP files and _data folders in the same folder using Windows. This can lead to loss of the project if you open and save the copy. Playback is silent when guitar isn't plugged into USB port.

... working. Does anyone have any idea to fix this? Playback from this recording using the USB cable is only working when the USB is plugged in. Any help would be much appreciated :)
