Sometimes Stereo Mix is avaliable, but "hidden" or disabled. This page may help you enable it. This page has some information about enabling stereo recording (if your hardware supports it). But Koz is correct. You should be feeding line-out (or headphone/speaker-out) ...

Can anyone tell me what the spikes are in the screenshot attached. I hear them as little clicks in playback. I tried disconnecting the mic but that doesn't seem to help. The seem fairly random .
