Hope someone can help !
I am recording and need to start recording well into the song on a new track ( sometimes an older track think Guitar Solo ) .
How do I start the recording say at the 2.30 minute mark of a new or old track ?

Try uninstalling the Debian packages of Audacity and build Audacity 2.0.3 from our source http://audacityteam.org/download/source (configure --without-ffmpeg if needed).

If that does not help, please paste the content of Help > Audio Device Info... in Audacity.

Define "get it right". I hear three repeats, silence, then something unrelated.

You can't save looped playback as a file (well, unless you record it playing in Audacity using stereo mix) - you have to use Effect > Repeat.

Did you try http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Looping ?
