Audio problems when recording levels are halfway from 0db
... I know this isn't a specific problem with audacity, but if someone could make some suggestions or point me in the right direction on where to find help, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you!!

I guess it's all moot, now. I just got a new computer (Windows 8) and Audacity no longer reads my amplifier as a microphone. I can't use the software, anymore for what I was doing.

1 Second Selection
When I edit a track, it allows me only to select 1 second sections. On the example image, I was once able to select anywhere in the highlighted region, but now I can only select entire seconds. It is very difficult to edit these tracks. Please help.
