When I do voice recording through an external mic

What's your microphone? I mean exactly what. Part numbers. USB?

... put in the selection time and it recorded, but I noticed the gray area on the time line exceeded and the exceeded part was recorded. If anyone can help me I'd sure appreciate it. What I'm trying to accomplish is the ability to have individual tracks instead of one long audio clip.Thanks

I must have changed or reconfigured something on my computer (HP) because when I try to record on Audacity, I don't get anything. PLEASE help. I have an assignment due tonight at midnight and I need to record the audio for an art video project. Thanks you so very much!!!

You would have got a better answer if you had read the pink panel at the top of this page and posted in the Forum board for your operating system. You still haven't said what version of Windows or Mac you have now. Please state that if you need more help.
