You probably should not do that in Audacity. You can do it in Audacity, but it will increase the compression sound damage if you do, and you also have to add the LAME software package. That could be a damaged bitstream from the Focusrite. Do have another USB cable? Unplug and replug the one you have -- both ends -- and restart Audacity. Do you get the Focusrite lights?
