... you have or given your computer specifications. If the suggestions I made at http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=236279#p236279 don't help, or if you have an AMD chipset, record to a WAV file in the H4N instead of using it as an interface. Gale

The normalize to 0 dB might help but if you don't want that (for example you are applying Replay Gain) ... Personally I'd not trust normalizing to 0 dB, but "close to" 0 dB definitely helps to get the best out of VBR. The issue ...
