Well I went through the log and found the files; and once I found the files, I discovered I had saved over the original files thinking I'd saved over the bad ones on my desktop. Of course, not running Time Machine. So no one do what I did. Please.

I just bought a cassette player hoping to put my old tapes into my computer on windows 8.1. I installed audacity 2.x but cannot get the tape to play . It appears to me that the hardware is not recognised and does not show in the list of devices. I need help .

The tips that Koz gave are pretty well the best available in Audacity. An audio forensic expert may be able to pull a bit more out using specialist equipment, but that is not a service that we offer.
