High pitched beeps on recording play back

... hear when I attempt to record into the microphone socket, is myself speaking, even though I have a cable going straight into the mic socket ? ANY HELP truly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Now I got to find out why there is no sound? Set the Output device in Audacity to your computer speakers or headphones, not to the tape player. ...

... on the Audacity version used on the XP machine versus the Windows 7 machine. Please don't bother - it's irrelevant. Please ask Blue if you need help recording with Snowball. It is a good mic and that is what you should be using. Gale

... the interface after launching Audacity, use Transport > Rescan Audio Devices from the Audacity menu bar at the top. Would upgrading to 2.0.6 help? It is always best to have the latest Audacity version but that won't change the issues noted above. Gale

Thanks Gale for the suggestions. I bought a guitar link USB interface but Audacity does not pick up the signal nor do I see the USB interface in the list of input. My PC uses Realtek HD Audio.
Would upgrading to 2.0.6 help?
