You can't get rid of echo or reverb. You just need to work on keeping a consistent setup. It might help to get a pop filter and set it up with a measuring tape. Then, you can get your lips right up to the pop filter for a consistent mic distance. You may need to practice ...

You need to drag the "Audacity" folder from the DMG into Applications. The "damaged or missing files" may be the Nyquist support files.

If that does not help, please tell us the exact error message you receive.

There's not a whole lot you can do. Turning it down won't help... Turning down the audio in the digital file isn't any different from turning-down the playback volume... Turning-down volume doesn't remove distortion that's already in the recording... ...
