Converting 128 kbps files to at least 256 kbps
I am trying to convert files at 128 kbps low compression to at least 256 kbps to use on special sound/light equipment but am coming up empty handed. I try different formats but am not successful with this process. If you can help me with this that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

muting one channel on stereo track during edit
... the R to increase its volume. Both L and R get blued in. Is there a work-around? (It's a nice recording, and I don't want to convert it to Mono.) Help would be appreciated! I have the latest Audacity 2.1.0 and am exiting on a Dell laptop with Windows XP.

You can put LF_rolloff_for_speech.xml on your desktop. When the Equalization installer asks you where you put it, point to the desktop. Instruction #3 in bold.
