Re: Help with vocal recording

I raised my voice and even shout to achieve the effects needed sometimes Don't raise your voice or shout. The grownups have vocal tricks where they change the stress in their voices to simulate shouting and so on. One of the recent posters wanted to know the best way to speak a gunshot blast in her...

... far better and more harmonious than it did when we sat down. I watched him do it and I can't figure out how he did it. Right then. I was able to help a tiny bit. I applied Effect > Low Pass Filter with the attached settings to the two instances of harsh crashing during the voice. The slight muting ...

... the cable appears to work at least to some extent. I'm stopping here. I've spoken to tech support at both Studio Projects, and Tascam. Both very helpful and not surprisingly agreed on the set up. But I got no new information. No surprise here, but both seemed to think that the problem lay with ...

Re: How to improve audacity performance when adding effects

... Hard Disk Drive or Solid State Drive, which will be faster? You can always use a RAM drive for your Audacity temporary or data folder which might help somewhat, but remember that your data is gone if the computer crashes. is there a 64 bit version of audacity? No, 32-bit only on Windows. Gale

Re: Please help - lost files due to system crash!!!

If the data is important, rescue data first.

Think about repair later...

I see repair failing a bit too often. And when it fails, your data is usually gone forever. If a crash occurs and eats file tables, I'd suspect something wrong with the harddisk.

Re: Please help - lost files due to system crash!!!

Cyrano's suggestion of using a Linux live CD is a good one for quick rescue of files. I'm not sure if it contains Microsoft chkdsk or similar to repair the file system. Set your boot order to boot first from CD. Or you can insert your Windows 8.1 DVD. After loading its files, if it can see your Wind...
