I can see that the never-saved file is using over 1 million K of physical memory. That 1 GB of memory usage is probably why Audacity is frozen up, assuming you are not out of disk space. ... with m4a since upgrading to yosemite until just recently and that seems to be the only change. I can still import m4a but i cannot export. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Open "Help > Audio Device Info", then copy and paste the info into your reply. That may give us some clue as to what is going on.
