... set the path for libavformat.so. Do you see the F,C,U numbers in Libraries Preferences? If yes, the problem is with the M4A files - look at Help > Show Log... . Have you tried configuring Audacity with --disable-dynamic-loading, which removes the Libraries Preferences? Gale

I've never heard of a USB MicPre and analog microphone exhibiting this noise. The feature of providing 48v to a condenser microphone means the MicPre has power processing and that seems to be the solution. I have a Behringer UM2 MicPre and C1 microphone under test. ... we can't guarantee it won't happen again. But it is "possible" that turning off WiFi and setting Audio to buffer as low as you can will help. Please try both. Gale
