... it should, it's much more likely to be a flaw of your speakers, or even your room. Or other settings in the computer as Windows tries to "help" you by adjusting the sound. What's the problem you're trying to solve?

Just to cover the obvious first, Audacity checks for new audio devices when it starts. So plug the microphone in, let it settle and then start Audacity. You can also Transport > Rescan.... Do you see the microphone device in the Audacity Device Toolbar? http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/device_tool...
