If it was a WAV or AIFF file and you imported it using the "Read directly (faster)" option, then the original file is still there with "-old" attached to the end of the name. That is the only exception to the "you're dead" rule.

... close the project. You can't have Audacity auto-open the saved project it had open when you exited. That is a feature request. If that does not help, please describe the problem in greater detail, and if it's not about Portable Settings, please start a new topic for it. Gale

Audacity only recording to one side
I'm using Windows 10 and Audacity 2.1.2. When I record in stereo, audacity only records on the right side. Can somebody help me t fix this?

That's a good sign. This is where they pick off the pauses, room tones, extra file management, etc. and prep it for distribution. We wish they were doing this with the WAV or other uncompressed file type, but no. They're using MP3 and this is why they urge you strongly to make 192 quality or greater...
