I think you're expecting a little too much from the simple device you've bought. Tape always has a limited channel separation, because the tracks are very close together. Audio skips during recording
... (and Shaped is selected under Dither). The Project Rate is 44100. What could be causing these skipping issues, and what can I do to fix them? Any help is much appreciated.

I would like some help. I have a recording where I am trying toi listen to a speaker and the background noise is too loud and I would like to cut the volume down, or isolate the speaker and save this to listen to.

... on for the mic? If not, try that. Are you choosing the correct recording device in Audacity's Device Toolbar ? I feel a little dumb, but I've figured it out!
I didn't have the input volume in System > Preferences turned up enough apparently (it was just about halfway). I turned it all the way up, and now when I record, there is a waveform and I can hear the playback. Thank you so much for the help!
