AUDACITY suddenly WRECKED
... the mp3 normally and the pieces of my voice. I've unisntalled AUDACITY and then reinstalled it with no success. I tried new FFMPEG; no success. HELP...!

... not being discovered/working. The terminal cmds for Gatekeeper were executed to no apparent effect, deleting the plugin.cfg and rebooting didn't help, manually deleting all the .ny files and any .ny.txt files found and copying new ones back didn't do it, deleting the Application Support\Audacity ...

... zooming in to make final adjustment to the track 4 position should also sound correct. I don't think we have any boundary snap guides that would help. But if you feel you want to see them, click in track 3 at the start of the bell sound then COMMAND + I to create a "Split Line" there. ...

My curser won't let me highlight required parts of a song to edit/cut
I'm in stop mode but when I choose a particular part of a song to edit, the 'line' moves to another part.

... on the recording meter and activated the meter (and so started an audio stream). Try clicking on the recording meter to stop monitoring, then try Help > Audio Device Info... again. If that does not work, shut down Audacity entirely, then relaunch Audacity and do "Help > Audio Device Info..." ...
