I like to use audicity program at school. But I need to convert the files into mp3. It was said to use LAME, but this doesn´t work with Windows 10.

Sorry to be a pain in the rear end, so when you say move my lpd.aup out of the way does that mean to send to recycle ben or create a new folder? i dont understand.. nor did i understand "bad characters, do i need to go back into notepad?

For information, the "bad" characters appear to be UTF16 character codes for a "wave" emoji.

Try this, but read this full post before downloading: Note that I have renamed the file to the original name of the project, so you will need to move your current "LDP.aup" file out of the way - I'd suggest that you do that before you download this file so as to avoid confusion.

Did you make a backup copy of the original AUP file? (I hope so)

You are correct, I apologize for not including exact error...
I did what you said now I receive the message "audacity did not recognize the type of file if it is uncompressed, try importing it using "import raw"
