I was getting This error message so I downloaded new Ver 2.1.3 but still I got the error message "Error while opening sound device. Please check the recording device setting and the project sample rate"
Please help. I have window 10.

Once intelligibility sinks under the noise, that's the end of the world. That also kills most of the tools. You can try Effect > Equalization: telephone.

... the default Windows playback device is at the time. If you see "Music Mapper" then you have a hacked version of Audacity and we can't help you with that version. We recommend you to explicitly choose the Behringer USB Audio Codec as the recording device in Audacity's Device Toolbar ...
