Turn OFF software playthrough. It creates a feedback loop when you record the sound coming out of your soundcard.

I don't speak Mac , but I know a little Audacity.

As a workaround try temporarily unchecking "Software playthrough of input" tickbox in Audacity preferences ...

2.2.2, see jpg, Saphire pro 14 soundcard for rec & play, Don't know if Software Playthrough is turned on. Can't see which drop down menu that's in ?

Try WASAPI Loopback as your host & recording device. That should. be independent of volume control. With Stereo Mix, you're "capturing" whatever is coming out of your soundcard.

Turn Software Playthrough off to prevent echo.
