Re: Initial Record Level Always Too Hot
If you're hitting 0dB you're probably clipping. It's very unlikely that you're hitting 0dB without "trying" to go over. And, it will depend on the record. Some records are cut louder than others. FYI, here's how I arrived I my "optimal" of 0.8 to 0.9. Starting at the pre-amp LED,...

Re: Lost Files

Re: Lost Files
That's not good news. Is there a margaret1_data folder around anywhere? Even if you use Windows Search?

Re: Clicks are driving me nuts!
With some of the clicks, I'm starting to question if the problem is at least partially with my hearing. I definitely have hearing loss is some middle to high freqs. Wet-mouth clicks are mostly in the 4kHz-12kHz range, If you play back at a slower speed (say 0.75x) the clicks drop into a lower frequ...

Re: converting SMF (standard MIDI file) to audio
I wonder how many people are using MIDI with the assumption it's a sound file like MP3 and not a programming language.
The files are smaller, right? This is the answer to the eternal search for small files.

Re: Endless freezing when editing/importing/zooming
I acknowledge that this might just be due to the sheer size I think that's a good guess. Audacity doesn't edit sound files. It converts music to it own super high quality internal sound format and edits that. Further, under certain edits, it makes a backup copy of The Whole Show and it can do that ...

Re: Audio only comes out of right side of headphones
I found when pulling the plug in and out while the left speaker was out, at a certain point where the plug was still in the connector but not fully plugged in, the audio would shift to the left side and the right side would be muted instead. That's kind-of "normal" when the plug-tip (left...

"Another copy of Audacity is running" problem
I had two Audacity projects in progress, when all of a sudden we had a power outage. When power returned I tried to open Audacity and got this message: The system has detected that another copy of Audacity is running. Running two copies of Audacity simultaneously may cause data loss or cause your sy...

Re: Cannot open MP3 or WAV files
I think you're building a terrific case that what you think are WAV and MP3 files are not. Your displays are clear that FFMpeg is not running and will not load. That usually peels off exotic sound formats other than WAV and MP3. Audacity will cheerfully open both of those with no outside help. This ...

Cannot open MP3 or WAV files
Still having problems opening non-aup files with Audacity (versions 2.3.2 AND 2.3.1) after Win 10 Home update to 1809 Build 17763.529. Worked perfectly before update. Audacity just gives "Not Responding" message and requires Task Manager to close it when I try to open MP3 or WAV files usin...
