Re: Create an 80 db tone?

dBSPL is Sound Pressure Level. That measures the energy actually smacking the side of your head. The other one is generally referenced to the point where the distortion goes to the moon because you exceeded the ability of the digital channel to carry it. That's clipping or reference to dBFS, or dB F...

Re: **** MP3 FILES!

From reading other posts on the forum, I believe that it is possible to have versions of LAME and Audacity that are out of step. Workaround: export your files as WAVs and find an external piece of software that will convert WAV=>MP3 - you should find some free s/w that you can download over t'inter...

Re: Lotsa noise, unpredictable spot, USB turntable

Excellent. That changes the Radio Shack shopping list slightly. Formula for Analog recording from the ION Turntable You need this (or non Radio Shack equivalent): Stereo RCA to 1/8" (3.5mm) audio cable. Part # 42-2550 US$7 http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102974&cp=&sr=1&origkw...

Re: trying to record from keyboard

<<<how much does that complicate things?>>> It makes things pretty simple. I don't think you can do it. At all. Macs and Deskside PCs have a Line-In connection. That connection is more or less directly compatible with the audio from the headphone jack on your keyboard. One trip to Radio Shack to get...

Re: Newbie - Problem with recording 'skipping'

It's a common problem with USB mics, but it can be one of a number of things. Try increasing the audio buffers substantially in "Edit->Preferences->Audio I/O" Also try a different USB socket if you have one. Avoid having any other USB device connected at the same time. Temporarily switch off any ant...

Re: distortion during needledrop...Leopard issue?

Given the problems this turntable has caused, I would recommend transferring albums analog. Close Audacity. Shut down your Mac. Unplug the USB cable and leave it disconnected. Restart your Mac. The ION turntable has the ability to push RIAA corrected analog audio from its RCA connectors. Select, I t...

can audacity find silence points/gaps is a recording?

Ok, if i am copying a whole tape or LP to audacity, is there anyway for audacity to search for the gaps between the songs and automatically insert a label? I couldn't find any function to do that.. it would be such a time saver if it has such function .. thanks.

Re: Lotsa noise, unpredictable spot, USB turntable

<<<Any other thoughts?>>> Yes. Go analog. If your turntable has a Line-Out, connect that to the Line-In of your Mac and do it that way. Vastly more reliable and the quality change, if any, is inaudible. You'll need an RCA stereo to 1/8" (3.5mm) cable for this. See: Radio Shack. http://www.radioshack...
