Re: attempted phone recording - ultra-faint signal
<<<almost-flatline.>>> A little known problem is the Audacity graphic flatlines at about -36 which is well within the range of human hearing. So just because Audacity doesn't give you a blue-wiggly line, doesn't mean there's no signal there. Welcome to the problem everybody has trying to record a ph...

Re: Sound card (or mixer?) recommendation (two inputs requir
There is no "What You Hear" or "Stereo Mix" for me anywhere, unfortunately. :( A google search reveals that it's a common problem. This is the common suggestion to solve the problem: http://www.downloadsquad.com/2007/01/15/how-to-enable-wave-out-recording-in-vista/ As you can see from other comments...

Re: Any recommendations for a pre-amp/preamp
A good amp will indeed shut itself down if it gets overheated. Perhaps you had something covering the vents?
To answer the original question, I use this one.
But I admit to having never tested any others. You can go to Amazon and do a search for "phono pre-amp" they've got plenty of them.

Re: Two microphones at once?
Many soundcards have a built in mixer, to mix various sources. "wave" files being played by some window's application, microphone, CD Player, line In, etc. If you search your soundcard/volume interface, you will probably find this mixer. "Stereo Mix" would refer to this. "What you hear" would often ...

Re: loss of sound problem
I did a quick google -- both web and google groups -- on the phrase, "could not find the MEDIA device for this driver" (use quotes) and "Sound Card". I found quite a few people with the same problem... interestingly enough the few I looked at all had HPs (desktop and laptop) and were talking about t...

Re: Lame not working with Audacity on MAC
Hi Koz... Before i could read your reply, i threw all my lame folder in the bin and downloaded it from another source. This time, i was a asked to do a "proper install", which ended in "lame encoder was succesfully installed on your computer". But, after that, just impossible to find it! I jus don't...

Re: Looking to record 4 channels for scientific research
I use an m-Audio Delta 1010LT PCI soundcard that has 8 high quality analog inputs.
It might be overkill for what you're trying to do... but it's available for less than $200
If you do... search these forums for other posts about the best XP driver to use for it.

Re: Really fast play back
What you mean is that you have your iTunes set to rip/import as AAC/MP4 - you could choose to import into iTunes as MP3 or WAV instead (you probably don't want to do that though as bitrate for bitrate AAC gives better quality than MP3 - and WAV files are MUCH larger). There are a couple of options f...

Question about adjusting amplitude
I'm new to Audacity (and PC based audio in general) and have a couple of questions/problems. I was reccomended Audacity to serve a particular purpose, but I'm usure about most of the terminology so using the HELP feature and indeed the search function here, has proven mostly fruitless for me. I've b...

""Search""
Please tell me there's a way to force a search for multiple keywords in order. No matter what I do, the forum will insist on searching for each individual word in my multi-word search.
I want match pattern, not match word. If it's down there, I can't find it.
