Getting started
I have used Audacity for Windows to pull out songs from my cassettes so I could play them on my iPod. The procedure was complex, but I got it down. But now I have a Mac and things seem to work differently. Here's what I did, please tell me what I should have done: I downloaded Audacity and ran it. I...

Re: High Pass Filter/Noise Gates
Thank you Koz. Now I need to manage all this stuff. Dealing with files and plug ins is fairly new to me and on top of that I have a newly rebuilt PC that I built specifically for recording (specs below). Right now, I'm importing directly to Wavelab 5 as a Wav file because I'm still having trouble un...

Re: unusual file
Extract from a quick search of t'interweb: "vox - the vox format most commonly uses the Dialogic ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) codec. Similar to other ADPCM formats, it compresses to 4-bits. Vox format files are similar to wave files except that the vox files contain no informa...

Re: voodoo child by rogue traders and audacity
I mean that it is really muffled and not as clear as the original (from youtube). I'm recording it using a 'microsoft sound mapper - input' and recoding it straight from youtube. If that is any help. from, thehalfbloodgreek p.s im only young and not a profeional thats why my previous post was so cru...

Compling a string of mp3's into one
Hi. I have been having difficulty doing what should be simple and cannot find an answer here. Maybe I am using the wrong search terms. I want to join many 1-2 minute mp3 recordings consequatively into one long MP3. Some of the mp3's will be repeated. Every thing I tried so far opens separate mp3's t...

Re: No Control Over Input Volume?
An ION USB Cassette machine. They weren't doing enough damage with the turntables. If you search the forum for ION Turntables, you will find billions of postings from people having troubles with them. Is there an analog Line-Out connection on the tape machine? If you have a deskside PC, you can go d...

Re: Error Recording
Audacity doesn't always get along so well with USB sound devices. It hates the USB turntables, but it's not on good terms with other USB devices either. You bought an iMic, right? You can probably do a lot better with very much better stability and quality by carefully removing the iMic and put one ...

Re: Audacity version 1.2.5 crashes when recording 24 bits.
<<<Either the 24 bits recording feature should be removed either the bug should be fixed.>>> Neither of which is likely to happen because the programmers are struggling to bring out Audacity 1.4.x. Can you write instruction books? They'd be really happy to hear from you. <<<Do you recommend to use t...

Re: spilt MP3 file without re-encoding...
Actally Audacity converts the file into its own complicated file structure - but this is also uncompressed like WAV. You would be better off tring to find a piece of s/w which will just split/trim the MP3 file directly - IIRC there have been some earlier posts about this so if you use the Search fun...

Re: Exporting aup. to wav. problems
That's what Audacity does when it encounters a compressed file and it can't really figure out how to manage it. It usually does that on import, tho. You have an odd duck, there. Search the forum for conversion programs. You'll need to get the sound file closer to one of the Audacity formats to bring...
