Thanks Koz. I don't know if it made much difference, but it does give me something to try in the future if I want to improve the quality. I did learn from a search that my particular computer (HP Pavilion, a1520N) may have a very poor sound board compared to some.

Lots of points. AUP isn't a sound file, so if you tried to Zip and send one of those, it would not play at the other end. Only Zip WAV or MP3 files that you made. Search the forum for freeverb and gverb. I think those are the ones people go to when they find that the production tools in 1.2 are a little...old. You could also install Audacity 1.3.
