Re: USB Cassette to PC Recorder
I'm running Windows XP Pro, HP PC .. two years old. I just purchased the Grace USB Tape2PC recorder. It came with Audacity 1.26 which I already have installed on my machine. I already have installed the Ion USB turntable, which installed with no problems at all. Now trying to install this new devic...

Re: Playing in a Window
This problem is caused by invalid options in the Audacity configuration file (audacity.cfg) The easiest way to fix it is to search for "audacity.cfg" and delete it - it will be recreated with the default values the next time you launch Audacity. Note that on Windows, audacity.cfg is a hidd...

Re: Distortion Analyzer
I wonder how much of the distortion analyzer can be done with common tools inside audacity. Quite a lot I think - I had a play with this idea today while waiting for some DVDs to burn. Apply a pure, quiet tone to the equipment under test. Inspect the output by completely deleting the original sine ...

Yes, it seems the search engines don't know JACK.
There is a particularly unfortunately named company that makes very high quality audio electronic components. It's called THAT. I know one person in a row that's ever been able to find the company through Google.

Re: Audacity for Mac less powerful than Audacity for Windows
<<<requires additional (non-free) software to circumvent.>>> Save SoundFlower which is a free download (last I looked). And, in principle, JACK, which is GPL. (But I haven't tried it, and some quick Googling suggests there have been issues between JACK and Audacity). --Allen P.S. I wish I could sea...

Re: Audacity for Mac less powerful than Audacity for Windows
Windows users, like Mac users, normally have to install LAME themselves in order to encode MP3: http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3 . It's a legal issue, not a technical one. I don't know how you would have gotten around that with your Dell. The difficulty of recording from ...

Re: poor quality export
Hi Steve, Thanks again for your expertise. I should explain that I wanted to sent this to a friend in Holland. I sent her the ogg file and she said that she couldn't open it with Windows Vista. So I sent her MPC HomeCinema and told her to install it. Well....... to make long story short... she's not...

Re: Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install
You could try a workaround that I proposed for a similar posting recently. Search t'Interwebfor a standalone MP3 encoder - export your filesfrom Audacity as WAV files - then process them through the standalone encoder. You will almost certainly find that whatever standalone encoder you use will affo...
