Re: Recording keeps getting quieter
Search your sound card control panel for anything related to Noise Reduction, Noise Cancellation, Automatic Volume Control, AGC, or any other effects. Turn all effects off. The problem is caused by features(s) in the sound card driver settings that are designed to make you sound card appear to be be...

Re: I want to only hear the background vocals/noises....
It's almost universally true that you can't take apart a finished performance. If it's a mono and not stereo performance, then it's 100% true you're out of luck. If you have a very gently compressed or not compressed at all stereo performance, then you might be able to use one of these tools to dele...

Re: Live Recording 5,000 hours
That sounds like a much less scary solution Bill. If I recall correctly, the chap that was trying to do a 1500 hour recording ended up writing a script to do something along those lines. Apparently he went 12 hours on Audacity without any problem, but for various reasons it got more difficult after ...

Re: Compatibility with foot pedals for music transcription
I swear we had one poster who found a way to use the footpedal. Search the forum for "transcription."

Re: Audacity mangles filenames on export (BUG?)
We figured "aha, maybe they know something we don't". There's little to no information on this anywhere on the net. (Perhaps someone out there can formulate a better Google search.) Our current theory is that there's something in Carbon that freaks out on certain long filenames (but not a...

Re: Audacity mangles filenames on export (BUG?)
Kos, your constant repetition of "use the right version!" makes me think you're not reading my questions carefully. I think I need to be more specific. I'll happily run Audacity 1.3 on my Intel 10.5.8 Macbook, no problems there, but that's not what I'm asking about. My question is, for the...

Re: Equalization
A google search for "graphic equalizer how to" doesn't turn up much. This wikipedia page is not bad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equalization And this page look pretty thorough, although I have to say I haven't read it closely: http://www.ethanwiner.com/equalizers.html Equalization can be...

Re: Why does an existing project have dropped sections?
Here's a very simple AUP file I made from a piano solo... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/aup1.jpg It's a graphic and I put extra spaces and blank lines in to make it look pretty. Count down about seven lines and you will see my piano2.wav file listed along with the digital pathway of how to get ther...

Re: Sporadic Recording Muting
I'm just connecting a standard 3.5mm pc mic to my 3.5mm line-in mic jack on my laptop. That is probably the problem. The mic inputs on PC laptops are generally designed for voip (Skype and similar) and not for even semi-serious recording work. The sound quality of these inputs is usually poor, and ...
