Re: What does the "Invert" effect do?
If you magnify the blue waves on the timeline enough times, you eventually get down to the up and down motion representing the vibration of the strings of a musical instrument or the vibration of the air when you sing. Stereo works by presenting two waves, one for left and the other for right. Any i...

How do you do Noise Removal on a phone recording?
I notice the Audacity Manual has a section on Noise Removal and a search of the forum shows several topics that mention NR. However, after looking thru the Index and Tutorial I can't find anything on NR or how to get into the NR window they show in the Manual. I want to remove the constant hum on a ...

Re: Noob to trying to make a live performance tolerable
Hey Koz, I just wanted to let you know that the best solution I found to remove the distortion and most of the crackling on high notes and audience screams was the comb filter. I kept up my search long after reading your posts and continued to try different effects and plug-ins, and though it does g...

Re: Sampling rate with Conexant soundcard
Thank you soooo much for your posting this. I have been fighting my compac presario cq60 laptop with vista and conexant audio every since I got it. Every time I would try to record from a mic it would record good for about 1 second the the level would drop and the recording would become distored and...

Testing version 1.3.9. I did search for something trying to see if this was already known but didn't find anything in my search.

Re: How to improve recording quality?
<<<because it's supposed to be mic-level, not line-level! >>> It's only a thousand to one mismatch. Do you have high tension power lines over your house? That's the difference between those and a flashlight battery. You need to dig in the specifications of each device. That's why we posted them. I t...

Re: how to remove music and keep vocals?
It does. Vocal Removal (karaoke generator -- offically: Center Pan Remover)) has been available for a while. It doesn't work, but it's been available. At least one of these packages claims Vocal Isolation. Voice Removal or Isolation --Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Cent...

Re: Unable to Export Large File
A friend of mine has on cassette tape the entire unabridged Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series of books as audiobooks read by the author. These were unavailable to buy from anywhere I looked so I decided to record them onto my computer. :o this surprises me - I bought the whole set in a boxed ...

Re: Why do front mic/line-in not work?
Did you do any hardware changes inside the box? It is possible the cable between the front ports and the sound card has become disconnected.
If not, there may be a setting somewhere in Control Panel > Sounds and Audio. Search through every option, as it may not be obvious.

Re: Reverb
Both Gverb and Freeverb are difficult to get a good sound out of. Perhaps that is why they are no longer included with 1.3.9. I did a search for a decent Mac-compatible free reverb plug-in a few months ago and came up with two. But if the OP is on Windows there may be more choices, and if on Linux f...
