Re: Continuous beep
You may try stopping the sound daemons... Are you running esd or pulseaudio? Also try opening the mixer and mute each interface one by one... I'd start by this one... To stop pulseaudio try typing in the command line: sudo /etc/init.d/pulseaudio status That will tell you if it's running or not, if i...

Re: compressed wav IMA ADPCM, 22050Hz, 4-bit, Mono.
If you feel comfortable using the command line, you'll probably find many command-line apps that will allow you to convert ogg vorbis to wav... To search the ubuntu repositories you can use "apt-cache search keywords " on the command line. For example: apt-cache search ogg wav convert That...

Re: "Add Label At Playback Position" via keyboard problems
How strange - Do you see any of the "[email protected]" messages? Very simple reason: most German users ask their questions in the German forum because they cannot read or write in English language, that's why you'll find nothing unter [email protected]... Second not-so obvious but probably the real reas...

Re: Audacity freezing, skipping and crashing?
If you have one stereo track to begin with and your splits are just to break that track into CD tracks, consider using labels to mark the splits. Then you can keep it all on one track. See:
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=files&i=split
Make sure you have DMA enabled.

Re: Chimp??
Step one in jobs like this is to separate the voice from the rest of the music. That's the step you can't do. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal Some of those tools will do vocal isolation. Voice Removal or Isolation --Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Center ...

Re: Need a way to convert MP3s to WAVs in automated batch mo
Using audicity to simply convert an mp3 to wav is too much overkill... you can perfectly do it on the command line (if your not afraid of it... and if you know a bit of shell scripting should be easy, if not I can try to post some examples...). You have many command line mp3 decoders such as lame or...

Re: Problems recording
I'm not familiarized (yet) with pulseaudio... but if you're goal here is to record the soundtrack from an youtube video I can think of easier ways which do not involve using audacity... (you can then open the saved file into audacity and do all the editing you need) If that's not your goal sorry for...

Re: Chain import / export
I wish that this information was more accessible. It is in the Audacity wiki http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Portable_Audacity but yes I take your point. You will no doubt appreciate that documenting Audacity is in itself a huge project (volunteers welcome - see second paragraph here )...

If you want to use a VST effect, use Audacity 1.3.12. Audacity does not support all VST effects, but support in the 1.3 version is very much better than in 1.2.6
