Re: Draft: HOWTO convert audio file formats

Using SoX to convert audio files. SoX is a cross-platform (Windows, Linux, MacOS X, etc.) command line utility that can convert various formats of computer audio files in to other formats. It can also apply various effects to these sound files, and, as an added bonus, SoX can play and record audio ...

Re: Correct version of lame for 1.3.12-beta ??

Steve, I'm nearly ready to start exporting Audacity files to MP3 format. I'm sure I downloaded a copy of lame about 5 months ago! Can you tell me please how I can confirm that/find where the file is located. When I type "lame" in the Start/search programs and files box, nothing appears? Al...

Making TiMidity run

Hello audio experts... I have looked in to TiMidity and posted a question about it on the ScummVM forum after I Googled "TiMidity", but I'm not sure if I'll get a response because this seems to be a gamer's forum site. I'm beginning to figure that TiMidity is a mythical application that pe...

Re: MIDI files, Audacity and Timidity

Hello again steve, or anyone out there who knows about TiMidity... Well, I have looked a bit more in to TiMidity and posted a question about it on the ScummVM forum after I Googled "TiMidity", but I'm not sure if I'll get a response because ScummVM seems to be a gamer's forum site. I'm beg...

Re: Isolating one word from an Audiobook file

What page said is a bit ambiguous... It could be understood as search the audio file for a word and remove all the occurrances of that word (a bit link doing a find and replace function in a text document).

(I think this topic could me moved to audio processing... do you agree?)

Re: nyquist theorem misuse - ramifications

The two major points raised were: a) Quantization ( if you will in layman terms rounding error, truncating past a certain decimal place). I seen this on review for scanners (printers), they complained about the typo for stated 48 bit resolution, I believe it was actually 32 bits. In all cases of bit...

Re: Disk Space Usage?

Ok... I did a search for .au and .aup and found nothing related to audacity.... I also made a few "adjustments" to my procedure of transferring audio from usb turntable to computer - thinking perhaps I could stop the loss of disk space... But apparently, my changes aren't enough since I am...

Re: Can't get a device in prefs to show for recording in v1.

Hi wax and Steve... (sounds sort of like an adult feature) I've hit the "brick wall" so many times on this topic that I have mortar in my large intestine... and I love cliche analogies... people who use cliche analogies to describe everything are like, well, never mind... that would be ano...

Re: The final volume level trouble.

You might be looking for dynamic compression. What a dynamic compressor does is to amplify the quieter parts while keeping the louder parts below clipping. In other words it narrows the volume gap between loud and quiet parts. Audacity has a dynamic compressor in the effects menu. There are more plu...
