Audacity stuttering on original recording

I have encountered a recurring problem which is very aggravating and sometimes even requires a restart to fix. Audacity records in a stutter instead of continuously. I would have attached a sample, but I get a "board attachment quota has been reached" message. I did a search of this board ...

Re: Trying to use the "Vocoder" effect

I did a search in the Audacity manual and somehow didn't get or didn't see the info about the Vocoder. Search on the Wikis (the Manual is a wiki too) does need improving but it seems to find Vocoder OK: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Special:Search?search=vocoder If I install the v1.3.13 alpha ...

Re: Trying to use the "Vocoder" effect

Thanks Gale, I'm getting into this now... I did a search in the Audacity manual and somehow didn't get or didn't see the info about the Vocoder. Re: Poor Quality Sound Recording

@inbox4family: When recording it is not advisable for the waveform to fill the entire avvailable space in display. The normal recommendation is to record at a max. signal level of aboyt 50% or -6.0db (depending on which waveform view you have set on). This should provide you a decent quality signal ...

Re: HELP: CANNOT OPEN FILE ANYMORE

If the _data folder is empty, then it looks as though you have lost your recording. The .aup file (and the .bak) is an index that tells Audacity how to re-create the recording out of hundreds of .au files in the _data folder. See here http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Audacity_Projects for an expla...

Re: 1.3.12 beta problem finding/loading ffmpeg dll

Here is the log per your request Thanks for the log. Unfortunately the ffmpeg.dlls can conflict on load with those of other instances of ffmpeg on your computer. We've never really got to the bottom of it, and the developer who introduced the ffmpeg feature is not currently active on the project. I...

Re: Correct version of lame for 1.3.12-beta ??

Steve, you're dead right again, of course. Thank you. Just as you said. Everything is working fine again. I flapped a bit when I could not find find lame_enc.dll when I typed it in the Start Box (Search programs and files) That was also compounded by the fact that the file is in Program Files (x86),...

Re: Is my recording level too low? Is my amplified level ok?

The recording level looks fine - the peaks in the loud part are at about -6 dB (0.5 on the linear scale) which is ideal. However, the tops of the peaks look flat, which indicates that the sound is being clipped/distorted before it gets to Audacity. If you give full details of the equipment used and...

Re: Is my recording level too low? Is my amplified level ok?

If you apply the amplify effect with the default options it will amplify the sound so that the new peak will be 0dB, this is the maximum you should have, above that you get distortion. Some people prefer to be a bit more conservative (like me) and amplify to a new peak slightly below 0dB (usually so...
