Re: White Noise (static detecton)

This project is for science fair. My science fair hypothesis is the effect of the diameter of a microphone on the amount of static, or noise interference it has. I've already bought different microphones based on their diameters ... The more sensitive a microphone the better the signal-to-noise rat...

Re: No 'front line in' option new laptop to digital piano

When you plug a USB sound device into a Windows machine and try to use it, Windows naturally assumes you want to go both directions, so it arranges the pathways to make it so -- whether you wanted it that way or not. You can easily re-assign sound pathways in Windows Control Panels and in Audacity, ...

Re: audacity performance with different soundcards

This issue is not do with Audacity. It doesn't pre-process the signal with audio effects. If the machine is still under warranty, complain to Toshiba. There is a small chance they will pay for a USB sound card. You can search Google or Bing for recommendations. Read the reviews on the shopping site....

Re: New "Tools" Menu

As a "naive" user, I would search for a separate "Labels" menu There's an obvious logic to that but I think it could be problematic. For example, "Edit > Labelled Audio" seem clear as "Edit" commands, but may be less expected if all other label commands are i...

Re: MINIDISC recording help required

There are some USB soundcards that will accept a digital input (thus avoiding the need to go from Digital => Analog => Digital with possible data losses). My old Edirol UA-1EX does that, that's one of the reasons I bought it for my MiniDisc transfers - unfortunately it is no longer manufactured, tho...

Re: Searching the online Manual

The most convenient way to search the Manual for the current release of Audacity (that is, 2.0.5 at the moment) is to bookmark this link: http://tinyurl.com/lytq5hd . Replace "Device Toolbar" in the address bar with what you are searching for. Note that if you go to http://manual.audacity...

Re: Searching the online Manual

Thanks very much for this. So it was in the manual after all. My apologies. I've now discovered how to do a better search of the manual by using the online version (rather than the downloaded version) and then using the Google search facility there, e.g. looking for "delete project". The ...

Re: Searching the online Manual

Another good way to search for stuff related to Audacity is to use the custom Google search box on the Audacity web site. http://audacityteam.org/ The search box in the upper right corner of that page goes to a Google search that searches the Audacity web sites (including the manual, this forum and ...

Searching the online Manual

What I was looking for (see http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=76703) was in the manual after all. I've now discovered how to do a better search of the manual by using the online version (rather than the downloaded version) and then using the Google search facility there, e.g. lo...

Re: New "Tools" Menu

As a naive user I would not look in the Analyze Menu for track splitters that split on either silence/sound or split into regular sections. As a naive user I might look in Generate for a plug-in that I knew generated labels, but I don't think that is a solution. Generate is for audio. I agree that ...
