Re: Poor quality recording of YouTube

Audacity records what you give it. Built-in (motherboard) audio and video card are all that most entry level computers have. You did not give the make and model number of your computer. At a guess, you probably recorded YouTube with the built-in microphone on your machine. You can read how to record...

Re: Searching inside an audio file

Audacity has no Speech to Text tools and no search tools beyond Silent Sense. Do you know if there is an existing software able to do that? I just noticed recently that YouTube will automatically generate captions for speech in video, for free , and you can download the transcript it has generated....

Re: Audacity won't open aup. file

It's File > Find. Not Edit > Find. File > Find just opens the same Spotlight search in Finder, as far as I can tell. I would click it to select it then look at the path trail at the bottom of the Finder window That's a new one. Nothing happens in my finder by just selecting an item on the desktop e...

Re: Audacity won't open aup. file

Oops. It's File > Find. Not Edit > Find. There's a setting in preferences to restrict the default search to the immediate computer, different from Linux search which tries to search Earth unless you stop it. right-click over the found item > Get Info and look at "Where". Or, Control-Click,...

Re: Searching inside an audio file

Audacity has no Speech to Text tools and no search tools beyond Silent Sense. We do however have labels. You can strike a key combination and Audacity will put a visible label at that point in the recording. As long as you Save the Project in addition to Exporting a WAV at the end of the interview, ...

Searching inside an audio file

Hi, is there a way to search inside an audio file? The goal would be to make a phonetic search (or even better a text search) inside an audio file. I often have interviews where I want to find again the location where we talked about a specific topic (finding when we talked about a specific topic in...

Re: Audacity won't open aup. file

The poster. Someone at work uses Spotlight almost exclusively to do everything including launching and managing programs. It divorces you from the file structure and it's possible the poster has no idea where any of this stuff actually is. If you hang on a Spotlight search long enough, it will event...

Re: Can't record streaming

I finally upgraded to Mavericks and still can't get Soundflower working. I ran through the tutorial again and nada. Must be something on my system no if under a different OS I see the same issue? We can't help further with this. Unless you are telling us that you can record from Soundflower in Gara...

Re: Audacity could not read its default theme

This is a known issue with some dark themes (Desktop) and is listed in the Audacity release notes (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Notes_2.0.5#Accessibility) Audacity has experimental Theme support which is disabled by default. This has not been worked on for quite a while so I don't know ...
