Re: replaygain plugin query
Thanks 3. I am new to audacity so i was under the mistaken impression from initial google search that replaygain possesses the same functions inspite of different software implementations How is the gain slider function different from the amplify effect? If i wanted to adjust the volume for tracks w...

Bat file to search local Audacity Manual
Split from http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=310536#p310536 Here's a Windows .bat script to search a local copy of the Audacity manual for a given word or phrase. It doesn't make inferences nor support wildcards as Google does, nor does it support regular expression searches. It could b...

Fosshub 2016-08-03 compromise time window?
Hi guys, I was recently made a aware of the Fosshub compromise. I actually downloaded and installed Audacity 2.1.2 earlier today (2016-08-03) from Fosshub, so I'm a little bit nervous. Using only Windows Defender, I scanned the intaller before using it, as well as a system-wide scan after the news b...

Re: Central location to save plugins from Audacity updates
a search box, which would be equally valuable in a local copy of the manual Indeed, but that is likely to be more difficult than adding a search box for online. If we used PDF or Microsoft Compiled HTML - which has some variants for the other platforms - it would not be a problem. I will write a .b...

Re: Central location to save plugins from Audacity updates
Got it - thanks! When I tried it I replaced 'toolbars' with 'portable%20settings' because I thought spaces would be a problem, but Firefox put a space in the address string anyway. So it works either way. Not that it matters here, but replacing the 2nd 'http' with 'https' also works. The cached copy...

Re: Central location to save plugins from Audacity updates
If no, the answer is to create a "Portable Settings" folder in the folder for each version of Audacity... I searched the manual for "portable settings" and didn't find it. Steve told you where to find it, but we badly need a search box in the online Audacity Manual. Meantime, yo...

Re: transferring ADAT tapes to Windows via USB port
Thank you for your advice and input! It's the Alesis LX20 digital 8-track. If possible, I'd probably want to go straight to Audacity, unless there's some other good, cheap software that would make this go smoothly. If you don't have the LX20 manual to hand, I found it at http://pdf.textfiles.com/ma...

Re: Recording Bird Calls
Depending on how pick you are... Probably the most important thing is a good shotgun microphone with a wind sock. Shotgun mics are the most-directional type of mic. And of course, you'll want to get as close as possible to the bird. Any "good" microphone* will be low-impedance balanced (w...

Re: Audacity startup slows down dramatically after 2nd openi
My thought was that they may be searching their database, and you are waiting for that search to time out. There doesn't seem to be any network usage at all while I'm starting Audacity for the first time per reboot. Rather, starting Audacity seems to cause an immediate jump to max Disk usage that l...
