Re: Questions about maintaining audio quality when exporting
If your original is from a compressed format, your only choices are The Same Quality and Worse. The only way to get The Same Quality is export the work as an uncompressed sound file such as Audacity default WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit. All the other options produce additional compression damage. Dependin...

Re: removing audio from .MOV file
Thanks everyone for your help. Explaining how Audacity works was most helpful reply. I wasn't aware it created new files and left the original alone. I use Sony's Vegas Pro video editor. I can mute the audio using this program but that still leave the audio in the file, only killing the sound. This ...

Re: mixer + Audacity 2.1.2 on computer
... So this adaptor should allow me to record to my computer even though it may not be in stereo? Mono would be just fine for my needs. I've re-read the question : ignore my previous post . You need a line-in socket on the computer to take the line-out from a mixer. If the computer doesn't have a l...

Re: pause button issue
If you touch the P key on your keyboard by accident this will activate Pause. P is the shortcut for Pause. If you want, you can go to Edit > Preferences..., Keyboard section. Type "pause" (without quotes) in the Search box. Then click on "Pause" in the list to select it and press...

aah, found a place to write!
I have a question I would like to post in the forum. It says for "questions, answers and opinions." I can't find a place to ask a question. And there are so many topics, I can't find out if there is already an answer to my question or not. I type in search the words I think are relevant an...

Re: Strange Sounds? from Newbie
That recording is unrecoverable trash as far as normal audio editing software is concerned. If the recording is for a court case, please use your favourite search engine to look for "audio forensics" specialists. For a fee, they will use special tools to recover as much material as possibl...

A function to alter the viewable thickness of waveform
By the subject heading I mean a way of vertically expanding the waveform - so that eventually it fills the track strip. I struggled to find this in Audacity, I did succeed but now it seems to have disappeared. I'm not wishing to change the actual volume level, just the graphic display. Copious sugge...

Re: annoyed by neighbour
As policy, we don't help with recordings for legal purposes (including covert recordings) and for management of person to person disputes. Someone not on Audacity Team may or may not be willing to help you. However my advice is to get a lawyer and a proper Sound Pressure Level measuring instrument f...

Re: Export of 8-bit PCM 4000 Hz samples fail
Thanks, that works! Not so obvious, maybe a candidate for future improvement/change? We do have a Manual that might have told you http://manual.audacityteam.org/ . To search it you can bookmark this https://www.google.co.uk/search?&q=toolbars+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fmanual.audacityteam.org - just c...
