Re: How to record from cassette recorder?
I will try that but first this: I did an "Audacity" search in "find" and came up with the below screenshot--four separate Audacities. One is labeled "4." Should I trash it(along with the unnumbered version) and go from there? Because now, neither 2.3.2 nor 2.4.2 shows up in the microphone permission...

Re: can't record cassette with Behringer UCA202
I only see one copy of Audacity on my Macbook Air, version 2.4.2 from June 20, 2020, but I do have an Audible, but I do have a .dmg version of AUdible somewhere on the machine that shows up on a search. I don't have any other audio editing software on the Mac, but I do have some apps that use audio:...

Tracks/Clip Alignment
All I have already searched through the forum for topics similar what I am posting here. Could not find anything hitting this on the head. Though I think this will be such a mainstream use case. What I need or want to create Say I have Track A and Track B I have a marker on Track A -- MA I have a ma...

Re: Debug report
Brian, just in case Fumio's suggestion doesn't work for you: I am having the same problem. I downloaded Audacity 2.42 for Windows 10, and when I run it the startup screen comes on, but if I try to do ANYTHING, the debug report screen appears. I went to the log file, and here are the problems. HELP! ...

Re: Can't export as MP3
1) Use a program to convert MIDI to WAV, eg., search for "convert MIDI to WAV". A word of caution: There are several websites that claim to provide an on-line "MIDI to WAV" or "MIDI to MP3" conversion that are fake or scam sites. Some genuine sites exist, but be cautious. The way that I would conve...

Re: Can't export as MP3
Is it because all other file types are converted to Audacity's internal file format EXCEPT midi, which stays as midi? In a word, yes. :D So, what I suggest is to somehow convert your MIDI file into WAV format. Two obvious choices come to mind: 1) Use a program to convert MIDI to WAV, eg., search fo...

Re: Very low recording volume
-30dB is unusually low, but it depends on how loud the sound is and how close the sound-source is to the mic. And, the "adapter cord" might not have enough gain. And, dynamic mics like the Beta58 tend to have low output compared to condenser mics. For best results you might need an audio interface w...

Re: How to disable "Save changes before closing?" popup?
It must be in a different part of the Preferences but I've searched the docs and I can't find it. There is no such option. I can see the attraction of having such an option, up until the day that you lose hours of work and a never to be repeated recording through accidentally closing the project wi...

Re: Making Music Retro 8 or 16 Bit
Short answer: No. Longer answer: The reason that the second tune sounds "retro" has nothing to do with "8 or 16 bits". It sounds retro because of the simple synthesizer sounds that it is being played with. If you play any tune on a late '70's / early '80's home computer synth, it will sound "retro"....

Re: MIDI sound instruments
i am trying to get my Keith 12 Step MIDI floor pedal (Bass/keyboard) working through my Laptop sound card using Audacity 2.4.2. I have an ACER laptop with Intel chip, & windows 10. Although Audacity can play MIDI files, it is not currently capable of directly connecting to a MIDI device. :( You wil...
