Audacity not recognizing things it should recognize

... As an alternative, I tried dragging from Files and dropping into Audacity. Now Audacity says it can't recognize .flac files, and to try installing FFMpeg. I installed FFMpeg. No dice. I'm assuming I'm doing this all wrong. What's going on?

On download and extraction and installation of Lame... There is no accompanying avformat-55.dll file. So there is an issue!
avformat-55.dll has nothing to do with LAME.
avformat-55.dll is part of FFmpeg.

Re: ffmpeg 4.x

You can always use whatever version of FFmpeg you want and then use export using (external program)

I know this (mostly) works as I have been QA testing it for some recent bug-fixes.

Re: ffmpeg 4.x

We have the same request because the current supported library means having to maintain two versions of ffmpeg. Assuming the trouble isn't enormous, would it perhaps be a good idea to add the option of using a non-approved library, with the caveat that users do so at their ...

Re: Importing audio

My guess is those are not "regular" WAV or MP3 files. If it's a different format you may have to install the FFmpeg Import/Export Library . (Download and run ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe ) I assume they play OK in Windows Media Player? Did you try opening some other known-good WAV ...
