ive just downloaded audacity and it wont let me actually import any songs. when i go to open one this comes up

but non of them understood this file format'

That's odd, because I have no problem reading or writing WMA files with Audacity once I've installed the FFmpeg libraries.

You might try FFmpegX, a shareware GUI front end for FFmpeg. You can save and load presets and stack up conversions.
