When you configured --with-ffmpeg are you linking to the correct library (=system if you installed svn ffmpeg)?
Apart from compilation, Audacity won't load SVN FFmpeg libraries unless you modify ../src/FFmpeg.h and ../src/FFmpeg.cpp.

Re: Problem
... convert the file to WAV then import the WAV into Audacity record the file into Audacity (you will lose some quality) or use Audacity Beta and add FFmpeg to your computer - FFmpeg will allow Audacity to import more formats. See this FAQ for more details. Gale

Re: cannot import wma files
Thanks for your help.
I uninstalled Audacity, then deleted the remaining files in the Audacity folder and the folder itself.
I reinstalled Audacity and the program found the ffmpeg libraries. Of course, after that the WMA file imported quickly.

... folder. The versions were older in the Audacity folder - 1/8/2009 vs. 7/20/2009. Should I dump the old ones? There's also a 1/8/2009 version of ffmpeg.exe in the Audacity 1.3 (beta) folder. I don't think the current 1.3.12 Beta will even recognise the 1/8/2009 libraries. So, C:Program FilesFFmpeg ...

I am unable to import wma files into Audacity 1.3.12-beta. I have installed the ffmpeg files but apparently they don't "take" in Audacity as the Edit - Preferences - Libraries sheet shows ffmpeg library not found. :( I am using Windows XP SP3. I am pasting ...

... at a very low bit rate, placed inside a WAV container. You can't produce a file like that in Audacity 1.2. You have to use Audacity 1.3, install FFmpeg then export using Custom FFmpeg Export . Note that if you use that option, some combinations of formats and codecs may produce null files, either ...
