Audacity 1.3.13 can import audio from several video file formats if you also install FFmpeg . You seem to be asking about Macs, but you've posted in the Windows section of the forum. Audacity will run on Mac, Windows and Linux. Most of your initial questions will ...

... had some problems with compiling (wx stuff - reverse functionality uses a class member which does not exist, MACRO definitions are missing on the ffmpeg stuff and on other sources). I made some Q&D chnages and now it seems to work fine for me ... Cheers Gerhard

... The much more professional way to do what you want to do would be to demux the DVD audio using DVD Decrypter or similar, install FFmpeg , then import the demuxed audio file into Audacity. That way you don't lose the quality you do by recording the DVD as it plays. Gale
