There is a bug in the Ubuntu 11.x version of Audacity. FFMpeg export formats (AC3, WMA, MP4 ...) do not work. We can't do anything about that as it is a bug in their build version, not a bug in the current Audacity code. You could try adding this PPA ...

... button. Choose WAVEX (Microsoft) header, then click OK. Then export and choose the channel mapping as before. This doesn't depend on having FFmpeg installed. I assume this will work as if I export from Audacity with WAVEX headers as above, the codec ID shows as "00001000-0000-0100-8000-00AA00389B71" ...

yes well, problem solved thanks to you all. I uninstalled the 1.2 and installed 1.3 (beta). Also added LAME and FFmpeg.

Now everything drops in easy as pie. Thanks again.
