I think quite a lot of the FFmpeg work is actually by Michael Niedermayer. I don't understand what your Feature Request is? Command-line importer? We're still not out of FFmpeg "update churn" unless a new "always stable" ...

FFMpeg appears to not support Core Audio Files.

If you have QuickTime Pro, it might let you convert in that. Some QuickTime versions didn't matter whether you had Pro or not and it would work.
