... back, it started after I installed LAME (why did they use that acronym?). I followed the directions here, to go to the same site and get the FFmpeg library plug-in. Problem went away. Now to get back to my transcription work. :roll:

Ed, are you saying this assert occurs even if FFmpeg is correctly installed (F,C,U numbers are visible in Libraries Preferences)? No, it only happens if you're trying to use Audacity without/before installing (the optional) FFmpeg library. Given ...
