Re: Importing mp2 ?!
... it wrong? Audacity expects files to be well formed. If the file says that it is MPEG1, then Audacity will try to read it as a normal MPEG1 file. FFmpeg tries harder and looks for "any" valid stream(s) within the file. It would be unfair to call FFmpeg a one-trick pony, but it is certainly ...

Re: Importing mp2 ?!
Brillant. Thank you for that.
I had just been using Import->Audio->All Files
Just the first/default option.
Maybe last week I had 'accidently' hit on the <FFmpeg compatible files> and that is why it opened. *shrug*
I have FFmpeg installed.
Many many thanks.

Re: soundtrack noise reduction from old b/w films recordings
Audacity will extract ("rip") the audio from some videos if FFmpeg is installed into Audacity.
Then you will need video editing software to make a version of the video with the audio modified in Audacity,
e.g. Avidemux , see ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS1zl_SMRbk

Re: EBU R128 loudness normalization
Thanks for the links and logging it. I am very pleased with loudnorm results in my ffmpeg scripts and I thinks it will be a great addition to the Audacity features.
