Re: Audacity 2.3.0 on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 - Won't Open .M4A files
... results in an error message saying "This version of Audacity was compiled without Quicktime support" (or so). Let me point out, that the ffmpeg library was not present on the machine, as Audacity 2.2.1 used to be able to open m4a without it. As suggested above, I deleted (actually: renamed) ...

Re: Low Bitrate When Exporting FLACs to AACs
... better quality and/or smaller files. But in many cases, the MP3 and AAC will both sound identical to the lossless original (in a blind ABX test). FFmpeg can make MP3s but usually we use LAME for MP3s. And, the maximum MP3 bitrate is 320kbps so you can't go to 500kbps. The 192kbps AAC limit is ...

Low Bitrate When Exporting FLACs to AACs
... I began to understand. I then determined I wanted to keep the FLACs, but also create smaller files around the 320 kbps range. I installed the ffmpeg-mac-2.2.2pkg and began exporting, but afterward all of the files have a bitrate around 192kbps. I am choosing the highest setting for sound quality ...

Re: Parts of Audacity not opening properly
... (audacity-win-2.3.0.exe) includes the help files, the ZIP file does not. You have to download and install Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe and ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe separately. For me, the FFmpeg & LAME installers have always been foolproof. It might be trickier if you try to configure them ...

Parts of Audacity not opening properly
... open 'help...quick help or manual' it opens Windows Media. Could this problem have anything to do with problems I'm having trying to get LAME and FFmpeg to load and recognize Audacity?

Audacity 2.3.0 on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 - Won't Open .M4A files
... decided to check and update to the latest version. For some reason, files initially wouldn't open. After setting the extended import options to FFmpeg-compatible files at highest priority and downloading FFmpeg/LAME as a backup, the file seemed to open but lasted 2 seconds with a high pitched ...

Re: Can't import opus audio track from mp4 file
As a long term solution, we would like to include built-in support for opus. We would also like to update FFmpeg and several other libraries. However, we only have a very small development team and a lot of competing priorities, so for now the answer is to use a 3rd party tool ...

Can't import opus audio track from mp4 file
I am using audacity 2.1.1 on Win 7. I have files that were muxed by ffmpeg 4.0.2 into mp4 containers. The audio tracks are Opus. I can't import the audio into Audacity. I'm assuming that's because Audacity is using ffmpeg 2.2.2 libraries on windows? If so ...

Re: Lame_Enc not being recognised/detected
... misdirected the library update on my first attempt. Is that what you meant to say, or do you mean that you tried to repeat the process for "FFmpeg"? It looks like FFmpeg is installed in the wrong place. I'd suggest that you uninstall FFmpeg - if you installed with the "ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe", ...
