... Audacity does not support DRM (never has, and probably never will). Most other M4A audio files are supported by Audacity if FFmpeg is installed (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#ffdown)

I presume that you are trying to import files that are in a format that Audacity does not natively support. If you install FFmpeg for Audacity, then FFmpeg will handle most audio formats that are not supported natively by Audacity. This may be a bug in the FFmpeg library rather than Audacity itself. It certainly seems to be related to FFmpeg, though I don't yet know if the problem is FFmpeg itself, or the build of FFmpeg made for Audacity, or Audacity's implementation ...
