I did a bit of reading up and I found that I need to use the option 'other uncompressed files' - choose WAV and the 32-bit Float - so I did that - exported and its silent - so does that mean that's what I need to export as and use an audio converta to convert to another format like MP3?

... That's Audacity default. Open the show and Export > Other Compressed Files > Options > Microsoft WAV, 32-float. That should give you a sound file uncompressed and with the same technical specifications as Audacity when it made the show. Does it still hiss? We didn't ask you another important question. ...

On the export dialog box from the "Save as type" dropdown slect "Other uncompressed files" - the click on the Options button where you fhave two dropdowns: select Wav and 24-bit.
The 48kHz should follow from your Audacity project settings (assuming you have it set to record/edit in 48kHz).
