orphaned files, imported audio

... recognizing them? I'm running audacity 1.3.12 on mac os x (version 10.6.3). Right now, I have the following in my preferences: * Make a copy of uncompressed audio files before editing * Always copy all audio into project What should I do? Thanks in advance.

... Before renaming your config file, open Preferences and look at the the Import tab--tell me if you are set to "Make a copy...(safer)" or "Read uncompressed...(faster)".
